How To Protect Your Sensitive Skin

When you have sensitive skin, this can be a hassle. Everything might seem to irritate your skin and your skin will often be dry, red, and itchy. However, with the right skincare routine, it doesn't have to be like this.

Cleansing

One of the problems that those with sensitive skin face is that they need a cleanser that is able to remove dirt, sweat, oil and makeup while also not being so harsh that it irritates the skin. Bar soap is a bad option for sensitive skin because it can be very harsh.

Moisturizing

If you often find yourself complaining about your dry skin, you should use moisturizers not only to make your skin less dry but also to repair the skin barrier. Creams are better to apply to your skin than lotions, but anything that is meant to hydrate will help your sensitive skin. Make sure to use a moisturizer that is free of preservatives, as well. Verify that the moisturizer is non-comedogenic because that means it will not clog pores.

Protecting from the Sun

Spending a lot of time out in the sun can irritate sensitive skin. Therefore, you'll want to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen as much as possible. Only use physical or mineral sunscreens because they are more effective and won't irritate your skin. Also, make sure that they are SPF 30 or higher and that they are non-comedogenic.

Whatever skincare products you are applying, make sure to apply the thinnest products first and then the thickest ones. Also, no matter what, make sure to apply sunscreen before you put on your makeup.

Visiting a Dermatologist

If you are struggling with sensitive skin, your next stop should be a dermatologist clinic. There might be other products or treatments that can help your skin feel normal again. For example, there are some makeup products that are recommended by dermatologists and others that might make your skin problem even worse.

Using the Right Makeup Products

The type of makeup that is the best for your skin is mineral-based. If you use other types of makeup, you might suffer from contact dermatitis. This may lead to you suffering from an allergic reaction, which can lead to a breakout or rash. Mineral-based makeups will not clog your pores and are less likely to contain ingredients that are irritating to your skin, so you can head out the door in confidence when wearing this type of makeup.
