Protect Your Skin: How to Avoid Atopic Dermatitis Flare-ups This Summer
Posted on: 2 June 2020
Summer is almost here. If you suffer from atopic dermatitis, it's time to get your skin care routine in order. Summer can wreak havoc on atopic dermatitis. You can't stay locked in your house all summer long. But, there are things you can do to keep flare-ups at a minimum. Here are four steps you need to take to control your atopic dermatitis this summer.
Keep Your Skin Clean
You want to stop summer flareups of your atopic dermatitis by using Atopic Dermatitis Resources. The best way to do that is to keep your skin clean. You might think that means you need to take a shower at least once a day. That is a good start. But, there are other steps you need to take to keep your skin clean. If you plan to go swimming this summer, rinse off each time you get out of the water. It doesn't matter whether you swim in the ocean or a swimming pool. You still need to rinse the residue off your skin.
Don't Share Skin Products
If you plan to travel this summer, protect your skin. If you're like most people, you use the complimentary products hotels provide. That might be convenient. But, those products can dry out your skin and bring on a flare-up. Not only that, you might be allergic to the ingredients. Protect your skin and prevent flare-ups when you travel. Always bring your own skin care products. It's also important that you avoid sharing skin products with friends and family. This includes moisturizers and tanning lotions.
Maintain Sun Protection
Summer's on its way. You're probably looking forward to getting some much-needed sun. After being stuck inside for the past few months, you might forget about sun protection. That's the worst thing you can do. Exposure to the sun can increase your risk for skin cancer. It can also bring on a flare-up of your atopic dermatitis. Reduce both those risks. Always wear sunscreen when spending time outside.
Watch for Skin Changes
Now that summer is almost here, be sure to watch for changes to your skin. You want to watch for changes to existing moles, or for the development of new moles. Those types of changes should be addressed by your dermatologist right away. But, you should also watch for other changes as well. This is especially important if you suffer from atopic dermatitis. If you notice the tell-tale signs of a flare-up, contact your dermatologist as soon as possible. With proper treatment, summer flare-ups can be controlled.
